Up until that moment she didn’t believe in destiny, in the past she had dismissed such notions.
It was in that minute that the world melted away and everything had shifted into an explosion of beautiful light.
It was as if the whole universe had conspired for that specific moment - finally everything made sense.

I awoke feeling disorientated. I slowly forced my eyes open and gradually the room came into focus; Good, I was in San Sebastián and in my hotel. I ran my fingers through my hair and half a bucket of sand filled the bed turning the soft cotton sheets into sandpaper. I grunted in annoyance and lifted my aching body out of bed. My feet were painted in tiny scratches and my arms were covered in traces of candle wax. I peered into the corner - Good, I still had my shoes, wallet and money. My eyes lingered on the hotel clock and groggily I counted the hours past - I had only slept 3 hours. How many free shots were we given to us that evening? La gente esta muy loca! (These people are crazy!)
Superman appeared from the bathroom looking exactly how I felt, tired and dishevelled. He shuffled over to his suitcase and presented me with the same picture I had drawn him 6 months earlier. “I carry it with me everywhere” he said simply “… it reminds me of you.” My head became dizzy, my chest burned and the previous evening returned from my ailing memory. I buried my face to hide my glowing smile.
We strolled in the warm sun to a bar that was located close to our hotel. My eyes skimmed over the foreign menu and sparkled in excitement. There was one item I recognised - Tortilla! A beautiful warm wrap, grilled chicken, fresh lettuce and juicy tomato relish! I licked my lips and ordered the tortilla optimistically. “Do you know what that is…?” Superman asked looking sceptical, proudly I responded “Yes - and that is exactly what I need!” What was presented to me however was not a "tortilla" as I know them but rather a prawn omelette. Superman found my translation hilarious, my head however was not ready to appreciate the humour and my brain was still cursing me from the previous night. I needed a cure, I needed the fail-proof solution to all my problems - I needed a coffee and tequila! Not surprisingly, eyebrows were not raised with our choice of early morning drinks.
After a breakfast of omelette, strong coffee and tequila we were feeling relieved, energised and ready to explore the world! We walked up a steep hill finding ourselves lost in the winding streets, narrow tunnels and clay houses drowning in foliage. It was not the steep walk that had knocked the oxygen out of my lungs but rather the view that followed. The curve of the sandy beach, boats sailing sleepily in the turquoise waters and fluffy clouds painted the blue sky - it was beautiful.
We returned to where we had started and strolled along the beach barefooted enjoying the sand in-between our toes, until finally we reached the Old Town of San Sebastián. Curiously we explored the intricate maze of alleyways that were filled with countless tapas bars and dwindling familiarity from the previous evening. We following the docks that were scattered with squaking seagulls, the smell of the ocean breeze and the sounds of boats creaking and climbed up the adjacent hill. Although the ascending walk was more challenging as the sun rose higher into the afternoon's sky, we found respite in the shade sipping on refreshing beverages once more awed by the wonderful view. Succulent tapas were shared for lunch followed by a refreshing dip in the cool ocean.
Despite the lack of sleep, the queasiness of eating a prawn omelette while experiencing a hangover and finding sand in places that sand shouldn’t be - this was one of the happiest and most memorable days of my life!
If I had one wish, I would relive these moments and I wouldn't change a thing.
