Today I held you for the first time in an intimate embrace, I was trembling with nervousness as you held me in your comforting arms. Could you feel me shaking, or did you simply assume I was cold? I look back at the moment with bitter sweetness. At the time the only thing rushing through my mind was "I hope I don't stuff this up..."
I was reading through my old journal reflecting on who I was and how I had evolved as a person, this old entry is still very relevant for me today but for entirely different reasons. How frequently do we get so caught up worrying about the future, the past, various projects, petty problems that we miss the moment entirely? I know I am definitely an offender of this...
I can not pinpoint the exact moment when I began reflecting on missed moments. Regardless I make an effort to be mindful to savour every moment and to "be present every day."
What exactly does this mean? for me it means loosing yourself and savouring the moment for what it is.
Quieting the mind to worries, insecurities, and tasks which need to be accomplished - but most importantly it is simply just focusing on the present. Inhaling the beautiful scent of a coffee, cherishing the moment of holding your lovers hand or the refreshing water running down your body in the shower.
It does takes a small amount of focus to practice this outlook, but if you allow yourself to cherish the little things throughout the day it can be the most rewarding thing that you do. There are no rules or limitations.
Admittedly I have been feeling a little anxious lately so today I allowed myself some time to just enjoy life. I picked up my favourite little treat at my local bakery (an escargot danish and chai tea) and I strolled along St Kilda Beach. The cup warmed my fingers against the chilled wind and the warm tea was utterly delicious. The waves were roughly kissing the shore and the sky was magnificent with various shades of grey, black and white. It was beautiful and the moment was as equally cherished as it was calming.

How do you loose yourself in the moment and what is your little treat?
