... you were gentle, graceful and one of the most beautiful creatures I had ever had the pleasure of meeting
Location: Bükk National Park (Hungary)
My first encounter with a deer was quite unique. I had blackmailed my companion (and although I didn't have my licence - sorry mum) I was driving through the Grampians dodging kangaroos who were trying to commit suicide in-front of the car. I am sure if my friend had access to a helmet they would have worn it, but I was gleefully driving ahead in the glorious sunshine rather pleased with myself. In the distance a large silhouette pranced across the road - "what was that!?" I questioned. In a panic my companion shouted it was a deer and for me to stop the car. I continued to drive confused and stated "....but we don't have deer in Australia?"
My friend began winding down their window ready to jump out of the moving vehicle pleading with me loudly to stop. I came to a halt on the side of the dirt road but all I could think about was - we don't have deer in Australia? Apparently we do (I remain sceptical) and apparently in Sweden if one runs across the road, a herd follows.
My second encounter with a deer was a little more intimate, and similar to the first time I was shocked. I was walking through Bükk National Park in Hungary and to my surprise I found bambi to be quiet small, the size of a large dog. I had always imagined deer to be the size of a horse! Regardless of their size, I have come to the conclusion that deer are absolutely gorgeous!
When we arrived at Bükk National Park I was blinded by the sea of green. It was a little overwhelming but also stunningly beautiful! There was an abundance of lakes, orange leaves, waterfalls and the smells of trout cooking filled the air! I was delighted!
After the exhausting day of walking and exploring we ate freshly smoked trout with potato salad for dinner accompanied with Hungarian wine. I had no problems sleeping that night, temperature and all!
