Me and coffee, it really is a love / hate relationship.
If I run out of precious coffee before I have had my morning cup, watch out and run! It's almost as if over night I turn into a heroin addict coming down from their latest hit. I breathe fire, and if you are lucky you will witness me desperately licking coffee granules off the floor. If I have too many I am a jittery giggling mess!
To my delight last Christmas I was given a capsule operated coffee machine!
As much as I worship this liquid gold giving machine I do have a few issues with it. Firstly I find using a plastic capsule every time I want a coffee to be incredibly wasteful. Secondly, $8.05 for 128g of coffee is expensive in comparison to the cost of a packet of regular ground coffee.
Consequently, I created a way to recycle the coffee pods!

- Place the smaller plastic piece into the coffee capsule with the center piece pointing inward.
- Place 1tbs of ground coffee into the capsule. It will most likely spill out over the top.
- Compress the coffee into capsule pushing down on it gently. Funnel any of the spilled coffee back into the capsule and repeat.
The coffee needs to be firmly packed into the capsule!

- Place the larger plastic piece on top with the center piece pointing inward.
- Place the capsule face-down onto some aluminum foil.
Do not be too concerned with this step! Because the coffee is firmly compressed into the capsule and it has the white lid on top it is unlikely to spill out everywhere causing a mess!

- With the knife gently cut a circle around the capsule, it should be approximately 1cm larger than the capsule itself.
- With your fingers tuck the remaining aluminum foil around the base to create a firm seal.
- Place the capsule into the machine & enjoy!!!
