Her body trembled as she peered down into the dark abyss below.
He gently took her hand and lead her across the corroded floor. If he had listened closely he would have heard her singing heart.

We stopped the car, turned off the engine and stepped into the torrid sun. The ground was covered in orange dirt, rocks and overgrown grass - a weak cry was heard in the distance. A little black cat with more ribs than flesh bound over meowing, its frail body rubbed against my legs purring softly. I wish I had some food to offer the little creature. I wondered if it had an owner, it was unlikely. I stood up after tickling the cat’s flea ridden ears and then I noticed it - a valley of buildings crumbling into the earth that surrounded it, churches, towers and homes with unspoken secrets and stories.
With little words exchanged we walked into the Church imagining the choirs, weddings and the funerals. We explored the surrounding decayed homes, people like the two of us had lived here once - sharing memories that were lost forever. Now only brown earth and dust blanketed the peeling walls. Like the buildings that surrounded as, we became absorbed with curiosity and we too became lost in time.
Hours passed and we were once more in the safety of the car, I contemplated. I had wished the little black cat was curled up in my lap knowing that tomorrow he would be fed.
